Angler of the Year

Darren Hemker has emerged as the Southern Illinois Kayak Club’s Angler of the Year for the 2023 season, and his accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary. Darren’s year was marked by a string of impressive victories, including our tournaments at Kinkaid Lake, Sangchris Lake, and Cedar Lake. He set the tone early by clinching the 2023 SIKC Classic at the start of the season. What truly sets Darren apart is his determination and resilience. Despite facing adversity with a broken pedal drive just 10 minutes into the final tournament of the season, he pressed on with sheer skill and tenacity to secure his Angler of the Year title. To top it off, Darren added another feather to his cap by taking home the top individual victory at the 2023 Crossroads Kayak Bass Team Classic. His unwavering dedication and remarkable angling skills make him a well-deserved champion in our kayak trail.

Rookie of the Year

Jay Reidler’s remarkable performance in the 2023 season has earned him the well-deserved title of the Southern Illinois Kayak Club’s Rookie of the Year. Throughout the year, Jay displayed incredible talent and dedication on the water. His standout achievements include a victorious campaign on Devil’s Kitchen Lake and an impressive second-place finish on Cedar Lake. These achievements showcase his ability to adapt and thrive in various conditions and terrains, which is particularly impressive for a rookie. Jay Reidler’s passion for kayak angling and his notable successes in his debut season make him a rising star in our kayak club, and we look forward to witnessing his continued growth and success in the years to come.
